Episode 20: The Gold Mine
Episode 20: The Gold Mine
Sep 01
Each and every one of us is a gold mine; but like any other of its kind, you have to dig out the good substance.The Gold Mine Theory – this is what stuck to me upon finishing last Saturday’s PETA Tour. This principle states that every person has this infinite potential to excel on any activity as long as they get the proper education and have the very determination to do so.
The blogging group included Arpee, Martin, Kai, Jun, Diego, Melissa, Carla, Benj, Cielo, Jeff , Joe, Coy, Chris, Faith, Karla, and Gibbs.
With this thought I just realized, I can be whoever I want to be. Just like playing a character in a play, you can be anyone if you just put your mind to it. You can be Juliet, Plato, or even Rizal if you only internalize that character – which requires not only knowledge of the material but also the passion to believe that you can be.
So just like what Mrs. Cecille Garrucho explained, anybody can do theater. And from a similar point of view of Pepe, from PETA’s “Batang Rizal”, anybody can be a hero too.
“Kung walang pinagbago ang panahon mo sa panahon ko, bakit kailangan ko pang mamatay?” A daunting question made by our young national hero. I almost teared up that moment when he left the stage leaving everybody wondering the same thing. Did he indeed die for nothing? Does our present condition reflect what he was fighting against?
Silence waved through the place as Pepe’s question kept lingering in my mind. Honestly, as I was sitting there, dumbfounded by the query, I didn’t really know the answer. And I was scared to believe that it was, in reality, all for nothing.
But as the play neared its end, I got to realize that it was not really about what he died for, but how he lived his life. And if one boy had this one great vision for our country and brought it to realization, then what stops today’s youth of achieving the same greatness? With enough will and persistence, you and I can be a hero in our own right. And with that in mind, we can be our nation’s gold mine.
“…Sino ka sa kanila, sino ka?
Kahit bata ka pa dapat alam mo na.
Piliin ang landas hangga’t maaga
Tayong kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan
Ika’y Pilipino ‘wag kalilimutan
Talino at lakas ialay mo sa bayan.”

really nice video coy.. i wish i were there so i experience the same things.. baka madiscover! lolz!
Hi, Coy! It was great meeting you too. Sa uulitin!
i can still remember the first play i’ve ever watched in the new peta theater. the play was entitled “belong puti”. i haven’t had the chance to watch batang rizal, kahit na requirement sa amin yun sa aming filipino class.
i’ve always loved plays, and i actually love the stage (kinda), although i don’t think the feeling is mutual. haha. LOL.
and i also believe that we can be whoever we want to be! it’s just a matter of time,resources and determination (and luck, most probably), that unfortunately, not all of us have.
so some dreams are left as that — dreams.
@ograbmi
Believe it or not, kilala kita. Haha! Thanks for dropping by.
@paolo
Discovered ka na sa YouTube pare. No need to fly out here. Hehe. Thanks, Pao.
@karla
sa birthday naman ni Gibbs. Hehe.
Haha! FUN! Filipinong filipino ah. Panalo ang script mo ngayon, Coy.
Shet, baka madiscover tayo. Joke.
@jed
Yeah, it was definitely a different experience, man. You should try out their workshops and programs if you’re interested.
@cars
According to the gold mine theory, the stage can love you back cars. hehe.
They performed Batang Rizal especially for you guys? Applause! Theater would spit me out, unless they get to paint a mural of the entire backdrop for the plays. Oh, I could do special effects, too, and animal sounds (especially the sound cats do when they’re in heat).
*unless they get ME to paint…
sorry, my bad.
@poytee
Wehehe. I dunno but that came out of me naturally. I’m really makata, you know.
@fritz
No, they didn’t man. That part of the vlog is, uhm, misleading. Hehe. Those shots of us watching were actually us waiting for our Final Performance. LOL.
You do murals? That’s really cool. Two things I WISH I could do are paint/draw and cook. Oh well.
In heat? I’m familiar with cat sounds when they’re freezing. And oh, I also caught one staring at me the other night IN MY ROOM. That murrrr was FREAKKAY.
Maybe someday we can use green screens as backdrops. Hehe.
I did one. A long long time ago in a land far far away. I won second place because that was a contest and did the school proud yo!
Also, I remember doing a church facade backdrop for one school play back in college. The final output was HUGE! Did it for two days I think. Sayang because they took it down soon after.
Auguste Gusteau in Ratatouille said “Anyone Can Cook!” Come on, man. You are an artist! Your inclination for the arts is astounding! Look at cooking as merely changing the medium you normally play around with. Start with simple stuff like potatoes LOL.
You did a huge backdrop all by yourself? Ang tyaga mo pare. May artwork ka na bang naka-upload sa Fritzified? Lemme see! Hehe.
Potatoes? Hmmmm…. Oh! French Fries! Hehe.
Nakakahiya! LOL. I salvaged two. One is partly destroyed and the other unfinished. I call them my kitsches. I’ve no time for painting these days which is just sad. Here’s the link (do not click, LOL). Done on shirts, fully hand-painted using textile paint on self-made metallic pseudo-canvas base. Yabang na ito! Hehe.
nice video! congrats! ^-^
