Episode 24: Golden

Episode 24: Golden

Dec 10

50 years of doing anything is a very long time; 50 years of marriage is just plain remarkable.

My grandparents, Lolo Peping and Lola Deny just celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary last November 20, 2007 at the Kamayan Restaurant, EDSA. It was a milestone that inspired everyone – our family and friends – who witnessed their relationship’s love, strength and growth through the years.

Now, let me share with everyone my grandfolks’ first vlog and hear their most heart-warming messages for each other; Also watch out by the end of the video – the family’s Golden Anniversary celebration accompanied by my cousin, Peachy‘s new song – “Lullabye”.

Here are part of the speeches that they personally wrote:

Lola Deny

Actually, I love to talk to people, especially with friends, relatives and acquaintances, but sad to say, I’m a poor speaker because I get tongue tied whenever I face an audience. But today is a very special day and although I find it hard and difficult to find words to express my emotions after 50 years, I know I have to say what I feel to this wonderful, handsome, old man – my husband.

Dong, I would like to thank you for sticking and being with me for 50 years. I know I have my faults and shortcomings but you’ve been very patient and understanding. And through the years, you have given me all the love and care a husband could give to a wife.

We had our difficult times, trials, financial problems, illnesses, and worst of all, the loss of our beloved son, Abel. It caused me so much pain and misery but I still consider myself blessed because I have you as my husband whom I consider the greatest gift God has given to me.

Thank you for the happy times and for everything and most of all, I thank God for giving me a wonderful and loving husband.

Lolo Peping

Good evening. First of all, I would like to thank you all, our guests, friends, and relatives for coming and sharing with us this special day – our 50th anniversary.

Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to tell you a part of our romance episode. I still remember that time when I set my eyes on a lovely, tall, dainty and sweet-smelling campus girl; I was so attracted to her that I decided to get to know her well. But it was not an easy task because she was very elusive. And back then, she had bodyguards assigned by my very strict father-in-law who watched her every step. But it does not stop there. I tried to win her by all means to the point that I had to befriend one of her bodyguards! And voila! I got her! (under my skin…)

Suffice to say, I’m proud and thankful to God I still have her and now celebrating with her our 50 years of marriage.

So to my darling wife, my General and lifetime Commander-in-Chief – thank you for loving me throughout the years – 50 years at that! I would like you to know that you are my everything now and forever, I love you and Happy Anniversary, General!

  1. Peping din ang palayaw ng aking Lolo na pinakamamahal :)

I hope after three years makagawa din ako ng ganitong tribute for them :)

    • Most likely “Peping” rin magiging name ko when I grow old. Kay Lolo ko nakuha ang “Philip” e. From “Felipe”.

  6. Bravo! I loved it. My wife and I just had our 21st anniversary, a long way to go for us. I just hope my grandchildren would the time out just like what you did.

    • I’m happy you liked it Schumey. :) Wow, 21 years? Cheers to you and your wife! Congratulations. My folks just had their 23rd Anniversary last December 1. How old are your kids? I’m sure they’re very proud of you just like I am with my parents. :D We’re pretty excited na on celebrating their Silver Anniversary. HEhe.

      Thanks for dropping by. :D

  7. Too bad, my grandfathers on both sides died sixteen years ago.

Pero nakaattend na ko ng 50th anniversary. At grabe, hindi ko maimagine yung ‘pagod’ at ‘tagal’ ng pinagsamahan nung dalawa.. :p

    • haha. “Pagod” talaga yung term ah. Well, a long-lasting relationship indeed needs effort. Kaya di ko rin maisip ang 50 years. :P

  8. Napaluha ako dun ah. I thought I was the only student in our class who still has both grandparents alive. Sadly, after their 70th anniv, both my grandfathers died. Forgot ko na kung anong year nangyari yun pero it was unexpected. Hindi na natuloy ang celebration, coinciding with our grand grand grand reunion sa farm namin sa Aklan.

Am planning to make a tribute vid for my parents on their 21st wedding anniv–and that will be two years after making this comment… hay, pati ako magde-debut na rin kasabay nila. Lol.

    • Wow, Neil, 70 years is a long time.

Anyway, marami ka pang time gawin yung video tribute. Hehe. Mag-vlog ka na para mapractice. :D

  9. nice tribute :) my grandparents celebrated their 50th wedding anniv last year.. too bad hindi ko naisip na gumawa ng vid. hehehe.

    I love your cousin’s song:

“I’ll watch you fall asleep. I feel so lucky, you’re forever mine to keep.
    I’ll be around.
    I’ll be around.”

    awww. :)

    • You can make a tribute for their 51st. :)

Yeah I really love the song. And the lyrics are beautiful. :)
