Episode 49: Valentine Violence – The Two Sides of UP Fair [HQ]
Feb 14The Wildest UP Fair I’ve Seen in Years
The University of the Philippines Diliman Fair Week has always been a staple must-go event every second week of February. Each year, every day has a delectable menu of bands – old and new that doesn’t fail to satisfy the appetite of concert-goers. Present are also different booths, attractions and rides which make the whole UP Fair experience awesome. But behind the fun music and games, violence is also a mainstay in these events. People usually don’t mind. Until last night.
UP Fair 2008 Video Series: Tear Gas!
Feb 23UPDATE: I shot this just a couple of minutes after tear gas spread over the UP Fair grounds. As usual, a fight broke out among the JJs (jumping jologs) which disseminated the crowd in all directions. After a few seconds, this weird white smoke engulfed the air. At first, I thought it was just smoke from cigarettes and marijuana but we felt like we’re being smothered. The gas really stung; we had to run all the way to the far booths to breathe in clean air again. Now I know how the media people felt in the Peninsula Hotel siege. Hehe.
Speaking of hotels, you guys just might want to check out Value Hotels in the Philippines.
